Abstract: Objective To investigate effects of alcohol exposure during pregnancy on retinal bipolar and horizontal cells in filial mice. Methods The animal model of prenatal alcohol exposure was made. The development of bipolar cells and horizontal cells at prenatal days 7, 14 and 30 was investigated with immunofluorescent labeling and DiI scattering techniques. Results In all age groups, the density of the bipolar cells was significantly lower in the experiment groups than in the control groups. The dendritic field and the number of branches of horizontal cells were significantly lower in the experimental group than in the control group ( P <0.01). Conclusion Alcohol exposure during pregnancy affects development of retinal bipolar and horizontal cells in mice.
